About Me
A quick introduction
Hi, I’m Katelyn, I’m a Registered Counselling Therapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor with over ten years of experience supporting children, teens, young adults, and families. I’m also a mother of two, and both my professional training and lived experience shape how I show up in the therapy room with warmth, authenticity, and a deep belief in the power of connection.
I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, school stress, peer relationships, grief, and emotional regulation challenges.
Supporting Children, Teens, Adults and Families
My approach is person-centred and relational. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe, understood, and never judged. Together, we make sense of what feels overwhelming and build practical, sustainable tools for growth.
When working with teens, I prioritize creating a space that feels genuinely their own. I respect their privacy and growing autonomy while maintaining open, appropriate collaboration with caregivers to ensure safety and support. My goal is to help teens feel heard, empowered, and confident in expressing themselves.
When working with children, I partner closely with caregivers, helping them better understand their child’s emotional world while offering compassionate, concrete strategies to strengthen attachment, co-regulation, and connection at home. As a mother, I hold space for both the child and the parent, recognizing that supporting one means supporting the whole family.
My previous experience with Children’s Intensive Services at the IWK Health Centre allowed me to support some of Nova Scotia’s most vulnerable and complex families. This work strengthened my trauma-informed lens and deepened my belief in the resilience of children and caregivers, even in the face of significant challenges.
Trauma Informed Care Is At The Heart of My Approach
As an EMDR-trained therapist, I’ve seen the importance of understanding how trauma can impact someone’s life. That’s part of the reason I trained in EMDR (short for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) as it is one of the most researched forms of trauma therapist. Along with EMDR, I integrate other evidence-based approaches including DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), ARC (Attachment, Regulation, and Competency), Collaborative Problem Solving, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Narrative Therapy, Play Therapy, mindfulness, and somatic therapies. I focus on tailoring care to your needs and pace.
Above all, I see therapy as collaborative and relational. It is a privilege to walk alongside children, teens, adults and families as they heal, grow, and build lives that feel more connected and hopeful.
