Counselling for Children in Halifax, NS
Watching your child struggle with big emotions, persistent worries, or difficult life changes can be heartbreaking. As a parent, you want to help them feel safe, happy, and confident, but sometimes the challenges feel too complex to manage alone.
At Rainbow Tree Psychology, we offer a dedicated, gentle, and supportive space just for your child. We understand that little ones don’t always have the words to describe how they feel. Our goal is to help them explore their inner world, tune into their emotional strengths, and find healthy ways to express themselves using language and activities that make sense to them.
You don’t have to guide your child through these tough times alone. We’re here to support both of you with care and understanding.
Our Approach to Child Centred Therapy
Growth and healing for young children happens best through connection and play. Our approach is warm, supportive, and centred around your child’s developmental stage and unique needs. We prioritize emotional safety above all else, ensuring your child feels welcome, respected, and never rushed.
Trust takes time to build. We’ll take the time needed to learn your child’s story and work at a pace that feels comfortable for them.
Play and Expression
Therapy for younger children heavily involves play and expressive arts. Toys, games, sand trays, and drawing become the language your child uses to communicate their feelings, work through problems, and process difficult experiences. Sessions are always grounded in a caring and playful atmosphere.
EMDR & Trauma Therapy
For children who have experienced difficult or painful events, we offer specialized, evidence-based treatments, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for children. This gentle approach helps children process trauma memories so they no longer feel painful or overwhelmed.
Parent Collaboration
You are your child’s most important resource. We’ll work closely with you, the parent, offering insights, clear steps, and support so you can continue to build connection and emotional resilience with your little one at home.

- Big Feelings: Frequent or intense outbursts of anger, sadness, or frustration.
- Healing from Trauma: Coping with the effects of difficult or scary past experiences.
- Family Changes: Navigating grief, loss, the arrival of a sibling, or family transitions like divorce.
- Behavioural Challenges: Issues with managing impulses, following rules, or emotional regulation.
